Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian hosted a routine press conference, at which foreign media journalist asked about the White House’s confirmation that many Chinese goods exported to the U.S. now face cumulative tariffs as high as 145%, seeking China’s response, according to Huanqiu.com.

Lin replied that China has repeatedly articulated its solemn stance on the tariff issue, emphasizing that tariff wars and trade wars have no winners, and that China does not wish to fight but is not afraid to do so.

Lin accentuated that if the U.S. genuinely seeks to resolve issues through dialogue and negotiation, it must cease extreme pressure and reckless actions - China will never accept such tactics. Any dialogue must be based on equality, respect and mutual benefit.

If the U.S. insists on waging a tariff or trade war, he said, China will resolutely fight to the end. He added that as a responsible nation, China’s countermeasures against U.S. bullying are not only to safeguard its own legitimate rights but also to uphold international rules and order, the common interests of nations worldwide, and international fairness and justice.
