The Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) held a regular meeting today (24th). Chairperson Mary Huen said that the market generally expects 1-2 rate cuts from the US Federal Reserve in 2H25. With the HIBOR trending upward, the interest rate gap between HKD and USD is anticipated to narrow.

However, Huen added that the HIBOR is still likely to remain lower than its level at the beginning of the year, which will be conducive to the pace of economic recovery and help keep the treasury market active.
